Oren McClain joined EdVestors in August 2021 as Director, Mathematics. He leads the Zeroing in on Math (ZioM) team, whose work aims to ensure that all students in Boston receive a meaningful math education that is engaging, affirming, and relevant, and prepares them for postsecondary opportunities. He drives the overall strategy and implementation of our work related to mathematics in partnership with the ZioM team, BPS leaders, and other key stakeholders.
Oren comes to EdVestors from The University of Texas, where he managed and supported state-, regional-, and system-level work for the Dana Center Mathematics Pathways (DCMP) and led a center-wide equity strategy. Over the course of his career, he has taught elementary, middle, and high school mathematics, led instructional improvements for secondary mathematics teachers, taught pre-service and in-service mathematics content and methods courses, and conducted research on the experiences and outcomes of Black students in mathematics education. His passion for improving the mathematics experiences and outcomes of students historically marginalized in mathematics is a constant throughout his career.
Oren earned a Ph.D. in mathematics education from the University of Virginia, as well as a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Old Dominion University, where he was a National Science Foundation GK-12 Engineering Teaching Fellow.
