Kayla Morse

Kayla Morse Higgs is a fierce equity-warrior for liberating mathematics teaching and learning. Kayla joined the EdVestors team in 2017 as the Manager of Teaching and Learning for the Zeroing in on Math initiative. Kayla takes a vested interest in mathematics teaching and learning as the vehicle to strong socio-emotional learning. Kayla has served as a Boston Public Schools’ math facilitator and teacher leader, facilitating professional learning opportunities for teacher colleagues. Selected as an EdVestors’ Math Teaching Fellow in 2016, she joined a cohort of front-line educators working to help design and inform strategies to advance math instruction in Boston. Kayla previously worked as an elementary educator in Boston Public Schools for 5 years where she focused on providing equitable opportunities for deep math thinking for all of her students, especially those on the periphery of math and social learning. Particularly, she is invested in ensuring that neurological research on socio-emotional learning informs math learning experiences in classrooms. Kayla has been featured in the digital edition of Educational Leadership magazine in the article, “Urban Classroom Practice Meets Education Policy,” for her transformative leadership as a classroom teacher and collaboration with other Boston educators to write Schools That Heal, a published policy recommendation paper for both state and district stakeholders. Kayla is a native Floridian from the Greater Orlando area, a proud alumna of the University of Florida with a B.S in Family, Youth and Community Sciences, and a graduate of the Boston Teacher Residency Program with a M.Ed specializing in Elementary Education.
